How to convert a YouTube video to MP4

  1. Copy the video link – Open the video on YouTube and copy its link (Share → Copy link or the address bar).
  2. Paste it above – Insert the link into the box at the top of this page and press “Convert to MP4”.
  3. Choose a quality – Pick an MP4 format — 720p is a good balance of quality and file size; 360p saves data, 1080p/4K is sharpest.
  4. Download the MP4 – The file is saved with the video title as its name and plays in any standard video player.

Why MP4 is the right format

MP4 (video codec H.264 with AAC audio) is the most compatible video format in the world: it plays natively on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, smart TVs and game consoles, and can be dropped into any editor without conversion. That is why this page focuses on MP4 — paste a link, choose a quality, and you receive a file that simply works everywhere.

Which quality should you choose?

360p is enough for small phone screens and saves a lot of data. 720p (HD) is the sweet spot for most uses. 1080p (Full HD) and 1440p/4K look best on TVs and large monitors, but the files are much bigger — and there is one technical quirk: for very high resolutions YouTube stores picture and sound separately, so those MP4 formats can come without a sound track. They are marked “no sound” in our list. If you need picture and sound in one file, choose a format marked “with sound” (usually up to 720p or 1080p), or download the audio separately from the same list.

However you use the file: only download videos you own or have permission to save, and keep them for personal use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the YouTube to MP4 converter free?

Yes, completely. Paste a link, pick an MP4 quality and download — no account, no subscription and no limit on the number of videos for normal personal use.

Why do some high-quality MP4 formats have no sound?

YouTube stores very high resolutions (often 1080p and above) as separate video and audio streams. A single downloaded file can therefore be silent. Those entries are marked “no sound” in our list. Choose a format marked “with sound” for a complete file, or download the matching audio format as well.

What is the difference between 720p, 1080p and 4K?

The number describes the picture height in pixels: 720p = HD, 1080p = Full HD, 2160p = 4K. More pixels mean a sharper picture and a much larger file. On a phone, 720p usually looks great; save 4K for big screens.

Can I convert a YouTube video to MP4 on my phone?

Yes. This page works in any modern mobile browser on Android and iPhone. The MP4 is saved to your downloads and plays in your normal gallery or video app.

How long does the conversion take?

There is no real conversion — we fetch the MP4 that YouTube already provides, so your formats are listed within a few seconds. The download speed then depends on your connection and the file size.
